Question / Help Does streaming consume that much bandwidth?

Hi

I'm with a german ISP called unitymedia, currently I have 32mbit down and 2mbit upload. According to my calculations, that's a 250kb/s upstream. When I enter this value into the estimator, it suggests 480p because of low bandwidth.

When I upgrade to the highest available package, I get 100mbit down and 5mbit up. Thats 625kbyte/s upstream. The bandwidth estimator still suggests 480p which is just bad.

Do I have an error in my calculations?

Which upload bandwidth do I need at minimum to be able to stream RTS (dota2) with 720p, 1080p in a good quality without lags?

How do other streamers manage that? I head the GD Studio had a 4GS mobile connection at first and iirc they streamed with 720p. It can't be that expensive.. can it?

1.97Mb/s = 1970Kb/s = ~250KB/s (note difference between b and B. b = bit, B = Byte)

In obs settings it asks for bitrate (Not for actual bytes send in second). So you have 1970Kb/s upload. Put 1970 to the estimator and it shows the right settings.

Hi!

Theres a difference between kbps and kbyte/s. 5mbit up actually equals 5000kbps.
You should be able to stream Dota2 with that just fine.
