Do nested scenes take up more processor/memory

So, I try and separate out my sources so that I can use them in multiple places - for example, I put my main camera in one scene and sized at the correct aspect ratio. Then I add that scene as a source to other scenes, build my frames around those sources in those scenes and then import those scenes into my main template. This allows me, for example, to have my main camera as my main view or my PIP (obviously I wouldn't have them on at the same time). Does having all these nested scenes cause excessive processor/memory utilization?

Thanks!
Mike

I have OBS open with 5 test scenes using between 105-109 MB and 6-10% CPU when minimized. I then added scene 1 (most sources) to 2 and RAM increased to 117-120. The CPU stayed the same. I then added scene 2 to 3 and the eventually jumped to ~195. The CPU remained.

I then duplicated the scene collection and removed scenes 2-4. OBS used 77 MB and 2-4% CPU. The more sources in your scene collection, the more resources are required.

These measurements were done when scene 1 was selected after making changes to scenes 2 and 3.

Interesting - thanks for the info! I've been bumping up against 100% CPU utilization so I'm having to optimize as much as I can.... or get a new streaming computer :) I appreciate the ideas on host to test this!

I have no idea how OBS handles images and I could be 100% wrong on this (someone correct me if I'm am), but if you do use any images in your scenes, try optimizing them losslessly using FileOptimizer (set the optimization to 9: Best). Smaller file sizes should generally use less resources and OBS *may* startup faster as it's generally faster to decode the optimized images. Also

I think I was seeing some similar issues to what was discussed here. I have included a few screenshots and descriptions of scene setups.
