Question / Help Display Capture not working

I'm using a 64 bit Win10 laptop that uses a Radeon graphics card.

I'm running OBS Studio version 19.0.3

The Windows Capture option mostly works well. The selected window is displayed both in OBS and in a movie file when the use of the window is recorded. However the recording does not display drop-down menus and subsidiary windows and the recording of these items is essential for my requirement. I read in this forum that Display Capture solves this but when I choose that option OBS just displays a black screen and the same black screen is all that I get after minimising OBS and recording the use of the laptop screen. The audio works well 'though.

I did read the sticky in which it was written “If you are using a laptop, you may run into capture issues (black screen). This is because most laptops have more than one graphics adapter. ….”. However, I didn't understand if, and how, the problem can be fixed.

A simple step by step guidance as to how to fix the problem would be greatly appreciated.

1 install latest radeon driver for your laptop
2.in amd driver settings there must some setting allowing to force obs and the app you are capturing to run on radeon card
3. run obs as admin

Checking reveals that I already have the latest driver.
Despite extensive research I can find no way to force obs and the app I am capturing to run on the radeon card.
When first setting the laptop up I was nominated as the administrator. That status may possibly have changed some time ago (but I don't think so) when the laptop went into a service shop for recovery from a virus infection. Regardless, when seeking to specifically run obs as an administrator all hell broke out and I had to do a forced shutdown of the laptop.

So I'm no further forward. But again Mroczny_Gustaw, I do appreciate your input.

Life's too short to continue to bang my head against this particular brick wall any longer and so I've opted to use FlashBack instead. That works first time out of the box

I'm having the same problem with an Alienware using Radeon 5800 series. It seems that the option to switch is not available in mobility center. Here's how to find out

right click on desktop and select AMD Control Center (it should be the top item.)
in the column of buttons on the left, one should be labeled "Power". Click it.
A list of options will expand.
The first item in the list should be "PowerPlay".

If it is the only item in the list, you can't do the steps.

I believe this is because the 5800 series (and probably other Radeon chip sets) doesn't have multiple GPUs

I'm still looking for a solution for those of us who can't follow the steps in the Radeon black screen guide

UPDATE: I finally thought to check the current log. OBS reported the device in use. Tracked down the application that was using it and stopped it. Video device displays fine now.

Now if I can figure out why blender gives a black screen

You may try to:
  • disable integrated (or dedicated) video in BIOS of the laptop;
  • run OBS Studio as administrator (and add OBS Studio to trust list of your security software);
  • install win7;
  • try OpenGL renderer in OBS Studio (small chance that it even can help).
And final step - you need new PC that can do the task flawlessly.

Just disable your Radeon Driver from Device Manager with Right click, that's it, it works with the only System Graphics.
