Question / Help Direct3D 11 renderer black screen

Hey everyone,

I'm trying to record 1080p60fps with the Direct3D 11 renderer on my MSI GL62M 7RD gaming laptop, but it's not possible because of a black screen on both the preview window and the recorded video itself. Microphone and desktop sound recording both work when recording with Direct3D 11 switched on, but there's still a black screen. I tried running both OBS studio 32-bit and 64-bit as administrator and messed around with other settings, but without success.

I included the log, and I really hope you guys can help me. I don't want to be stuck with the OpenGL renderer anymore!

I had the same problem with HP Zbook 14 laptop (Intel video+AMD FirePro M4100) when trying to do a display capture as the source. I went into the Settings->Advanced, under the Video section and changed the Renderer from Direct3D 11 to OpenGL and that worked for me (don't forget to exit and restart OBS).

There was info on the forum, that systems with switchable graphics onboard just renders desktop via less powered video card. Thus, to capture Display you should run OBS Studio by the same video card (build-in one). While Game Capture requires OBS to run by the same video card which the game is running (usually it is powerful discrete graphics). Sometimes, the option Multi-adapter compatibility can solve this but this is slowest method of capture.
