Question / Help Dedicated streaming PC... lag?!

Y'ello I am new to this forum so if I unintentionally break any rules let me know.

Anyway, I use a dedicated streaming PC for recording and streaming with an Elgato HD60 Pro.
In terms of specs, it doesn't have a dedicated GPU, an Intel i7 6700k, 1x8GB 2400Mhz DIMM and a 500GB hard drive.

I have the HDMI with all audio passthrough fed into the capture card. I use a direct remote desktop session to connect to it without a second monitor, meaning I have an ethernet cable plugged in directly from my main PC to the streaming one to interact with it.

For encoding I use (obviously,) x264 at veryfast with a 1080p 60fps stream @ 12,000kbps. You'd think that it'd handle that fine - bit it does't? There's stuttering and mis-placed frames everywhere.
I increase the profile to ultrafast and the recording is fine, albeit full of many artifacts. Also, decreasing the resolution/framerate of the stream also improved video quality and fixes framepacing.

While you'd think that's normal as I am reducing settings, I am using an i7 6700k haha. Am I underestimating the intensity of x264? Or is there something I could have missed, like, an option somewhere? Because I am pretty sure that an i7 6700k should be plenty for an x264 stream, veryfast, at 1080p 60.

I have tried disconnecting from the remote desktop session while I record, as well.

I've just come to post an answer to my own question!

It was because I had no graphics card in the system. I thought as I was using x264 no GPU was needed but Windows was kinda stuck with 128MB of DDR4 for VRAM on the integrated graphics. Just adding a GPU to the system (GTX 960 2G) gave the computer much more juice - even for x264. Results showed just as I looked back at the recording - 60fps, butter smooth, flawless clean video at 1080p 60. Very happy now my main CPU isn't limited by the integrated graphics processing capabilities!

So if you plan on getting a streaming PC add a low-end GPU to it (GT 1030 for example)!
