Hi all,

I've been thinking of building a dedicated streaming PC for some time now, but my lack of-knowledge and the fact I've got old spare parts lying around I just don't know if they'd be good enough. So I call on this fine community, with the knowledge and experience to help me make some choices. I will detail as much info about my current gaming pc and then my proposed dedicated streamer....

Gaming PC Spec......

Processor: i5 3570k
Mb: asrock Extreme 6 z77
GPU: Asus 2GB Radeon HD6950 OC'd to HD6970
Ram: 12gb DDR 3
HDD: nothing fancy just standard 250gb
Windows 8.1

Proposed Streamer.....

Processor: Inter Q6600
Mb: MSI P7N Diamond I think
GPU: none
Ram: 8gb DDR 3
Capture card: Hauppauge HD PVR 2 Gaming Edition
Windows 8.1

What do you guys think? Also is the capture card suitable for PC streaming as my GPU doesn't have HDMI only two DVI slots... Any info, images, diagrams etc would be most appreciated.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts guys, thanks in advance.

Regards,
BluntNBeer :)

The Q6600 is pretty old/weak and the HD-PVR 2 is unsupported, so you'd end up having to use window capture on the Hauppauge software. You'd be better off encoding on your 3570K with x264 or using Quick Sync in situations where that CPU can't keep up.

Hi Sapiens,

Well I did try and use my current rig to do some live streaming to twitch and the stream didn't look to great. That's where I thought a dedicated machine would have come in handy. Mind I haven't really dug deep into streaming from my PC I used xsplit and a couple of others and they pretty much all looked the same.

Is it possible to get a high quality stream from my 3570k you think?

I have an i5 3750k OC @ 4.2 ghz and I get a decent stream quality using quick sync with 2700 upload; way better than when I was using x264.
