Question / Help Dead air at the start and end of my streams...

One issue I have tried and not had much success in figuring out is how to cut down on the amount of dead air at the start and end (mostly start) of my streams, especially once the stream is archived on YouTube and people then have to skip through 90 seconds of dead air to get to the actual stream. My usual process is once my stream key has been entered into my settings in OBS, I click the STREAM NOW button within the application first, then maybe wait 2-3 seconds and begin speaking, and THEN click the red GO LIVE button on my YouTube dashboard page. My understanding is I need to click both or else the stream won't start, or is it a case where if I wait, the stream will eventually go live without me having to click any button from the YT dash?

On rare other occasions, I'll begin speaking when I think I'm live and when I go back and listen to the archived version, it starts with me already in the middle of my introduction. I can't seem to find that sweet spot and obviously am doing something wrong. Any suggestions?

Not sure how you've set up OBS with YouTube, but I never click a button in the YouTube interface to "go live". I use the "stream now" configuration, and when I start streaming in OBS, it goes live immediately. Usually I have it scheduled for a specific time, but even then, it doesn't "go live" with anything until OBS starts sending, no matter what time it is.

What do you mean exactly by using the "Stream Now" configuration, if I may ask? I usually pre-schedule my streams within YouTube for a certain time, but even if I'm running a few minutes late, it won't start until I initiate things. Should I just begin streaming within OBS and then wait to see if YT picks it up automatically and goes live? Might that somehow solve the issue of the dead air at the outset?
