Day 1: VCR --> Video Capture Card playing AV content on laptop as expected; Day 2: Blank screen, no audio.

What happened from one day to the next? There are only two troubleshooting options for Video Capture Card, and neither applies to me. I tested my VCR to make sure was still playing the VHS tape correctly. I hope it's just a setting that I adjusted unintentionally.

*Device/OBS are still picking up the audio signal, but there's no longer AV output. The first time I set it up, it worked, and I was so excited! This feels like a huge letdown.

This usually means that the device was powered off when you run OBS. Likely, previous OBS session ended normally, thus OBS saved device name and expected it to be powered on (plugged in). You have run OBS but device was off. Then you plugged in the capture device and see black screen in the preview.

What can help - plug in your device (power on), then open Video Capture Device source properties in OBS (by mouse right-click over the source > Properties) and try to click the "Deactivate" button. The button's name changes to "Activate". Now click this "Activate" button. If OBS application has enough rights to access the capture device (or any camera) then in 2-3 seconds there should appear picture from your device.
