Question / Help Crashing in multiple scenarios (OBS 25.0.6, Catalina 10.15.4)

Hi All

Have come back to OBS recently after having looked at it a few years ago and have now been using it on Windows for a few weeks with no issues.

Have just migrated to a new Mac mini (2018 model, 3.2 i7 with 32GB running latest version of Catalina 10.15.4) and started seeing crashes.

I can see there is an issue with the obs-ndi plug-in and the latest version of Newtek's NDI runtime so I've uninstalled both of those however I'm seeing issues with Text sources both when using my scenes imported from my Windows machine and when using a clean profile, clean scenes and creating new. I'm able to start to create the scene, enter the text etc however it crashes when I click OK to save.

Crash report uploaded to https://pastebin.com/9enULCHR so any and all help appreciated.

Thanks

Al

we're having a look at it but we're mostly clueless. Can you downgrade to v24 on your mac and tell us if you can repro the bug ?

I just went back to OBS today and updated. Worked fine - did a 1.5 hour livestream. Installed the NDI plugin and can't even open OBS now - crash after crash on Mojave 10.14.6

Just pushed out a new version, mind giving it a spin?

Thank you. I did figure out generally where the crash was coming from. Something in the user Application Support (not the root one) was causing an issue. It worked fine earlier, but after installing the NDI stuff, OBS crashed on launch. Since removing the installed files didn't work, I tried dumping all contents of user->Application Support->obs-studio. Of course, I lost my settings, but no big deal since I'm new. Now OBS launches even with NDI reinstalled. Now - just need to see if I can get NDI working with EpocCam HD since EpocCam (just bought today) has little to no value if I can use audio with it (nice that they have the NDI requirement for using audio on the Mac in small print ).

Just tried it after removing 25.0.6, deleting obs-studio folders from /Library/Application Support and ~/Library/Application Support and rebooting and still getting a crash when adding a text source. Crash report at https://pastebin.com/37wpR0J

Do let me know if there are other tests I can do to help.

Cheeky little bump, I've had a play with various builds and still no luck. I'm happy to see if I can do a fresh install of Catalina (as I said it's been a few years since I used Macs so I'm not sure how that is done now) and work through steps from there.

Any guidance from devs or those who understand the crash logs is much appreciated.

don't reinstall Catalina on our account. We need to be able to repro this crash. Could you post an obs log ?

Sorry for the delay in coming back. I've sat down this evening to reproduce this crash in every version and save the log files etc and I cannot get it to do it...

I've updated to OBS 25.0.7 and had no issues creating text sources. I went back imported my scene collection that originally caused the issue: no crashes, I changed all the text_gdiplus sources to text_ft2 (via a text editor rather than recreate them all) and still no issues, I installed the NDI plugin and still no issues. I cannot replicate this at all.

The only change I've made (and it occurred to me last night that this device might have been part of the problem) was disconnect the webcam I had connected to a USB3 switcher that is sharing the keyboard, wireless mouse receiver and webcam with my OBS Windows machine. The only reason I did that was because the webcam wasn't working under windows, however event taht works fine now under macOS. I've even tried turning the other connected machine on and off whilst using the switcher to see if that caused the issue.

I'll keep playing for a few days and then come back and update you all, but at the moment this seems to have (worryingly) solved itself.

Thanks

Al
