Question / Help CPU (Ryzen 5 2600) not maxed out but OBS encoding overloaded

Hi guys, first I just wanna say thanks in advance for any help or advice.

I had previously been using my GTX 960 with NVENC to stream through OBS Studio at 720p60fps and upgraded to a Ryzen 5 2600 from my old i7 2600.

Since upgrading, my stream has been performing awfully, and I'm really stumped as to why. My current stream settings are:

  • Canvas Resolution: 1280x720
  • Output Resolution: 1280x720
  • Encoder: x264
  • CBR
  • Bitrate: 6000
  • Keyframe interval: 2
  • CPU Usage Preset: medium
  • Profile: High
  • Downscale Fitler: Lanczos
  • FPS: 60
  • Process Priority: Normal
Yet while streaming, my game runs fine (tested multiple different games) however my OBS is constantly dipping down to 10~30fps intermittently, while my CPU usage is not maxed out. I'm really confused as to what's wrong and it's been really disheartening after getting all this new hardware to try improve my stream.

Thanks!

Check your Game Mode settings, I see you have Game Bar and Game DVR off, but Game Mode is often overlooked. Turn it off, it destroys OBS performance.
