Question / Help Constant white noise in stream

Hello!

I am new to streaming and have been using OBS and Twitch now for about a week. Everything works great, except for one big problem: whenever my mic is open (whether i have it open all the time, or open with push-to-talk), there is a very obnoxious white noise. I have both a microphone and a webcam set up, and the white noise is there at the same level regardless of which one i use. I've never had that noise there on, say, Skype or Ventrillo, only on my stream. I searched this forum and saw a few people post the same problem, but they were old posts without results. Hopefully someone can help me out.

I am not on currently, but my channel is http://www.twitch.tv/mrpayson so maybe someone can swing by later when I'm on to hear what I am talking about. Thank you!

Skype/ventrilo have noise-reduction built in to help cut away the noise generated by borderline/poor mics. OBS does not; it just passes along the signal straight through.

Hmm, well then maybe it's time for a new mic, haha. I was surprised though, if that's the case, because like i said, when I switched from having a mic be my input to my webcam, the exact sound level of the white noise did not change.

I'm experiencing the same issue.

My mic is new, and when I start broadcasting the mic noise level just goes way up.

And that is regardless of whether my mic is one or off. So its not coming directly through the mic. :(

If possible post a vod/video of the problem. If it's regular background noise that's being picked up by your mic, there's not much you can do about that except noise gate in settings. In the future we'll be allowing more audio filters, but for now there's probably not much else you can do.
