Question / Help Considering Purchasing a Capture Device

Hello OBS forum group! I am thinking about purchasing a capture device to achieve a few goals.

I want a device that will...
  • Capture Component input from a ps2, gamecube, or other standard component audio/video source
  • Be compatible with OBS! I want to take live footage and use it as a source in OBS for streaming and recording.
  • Cost less than $100 if possible.
If anyone has any advice or experience to contribute on this issue I would greatly appreciate it! A friend has recommended hauppauge, but anything that meets my criteria would be great!

The capture card can be added as a video capture device in OBS once its drivers are installed, no additional software is necessary. The HDPVR/HDPVR2 are not compatible with OBS yet so you'll want to avoid those.

Last questions! Will I need a splitter of any kind? Their website says if you want to play on a tv you need a splitter, but since I'm fine playing using my computer monitor will I be able to see input in real time? What sort of delay is to be expected when using a component input, and will it be noticeable enough to make gameplay impossible / difficult?

Also, can I also use the card as an audio device and listen the the audio using my computer headset / speakers?

Thanks for the help!

If you're not playing on a TV, then no, you won't need a splitter. From my experience, there's about a a ~50ms delay or so between when the output is output and when it is displayed on screen via DirectShow. It will probably depend on the game you are playing and how tolerant you are to input lag.

And yes, you can play audio through the speakers of your computer.

Thanks for the help and support! I know you said not to, but I picked up an HD PVR 2 (because my friend was selling his for really cheap!)

I know it's not supported right now, but hopefully soon with the re-write!

Thanks again.
