connnected camera via hdmi input not showing in OBS

so I have bought the new Macbook pro which has a hdmi input in the side of the laptop.

now I have tried to connect my dslr camera to my mac using the hdmi input but it doesn't show anything

What camera are you using. If it's an EOS you can connect from camera mini usb to usb on Mac and you'll have a clean screen. Go to Canon site and download EOS Webcam Utility....https://canon.us/forum-eoswebcamutility

I'm going to guess that the HDMI port is strictly an output. iMacs can do video in from laptops, but they just act as a monitor, the video isn't seen by the OS itself.

I use a CamLink to get HDMI in on macOS, or like vicarm said, Canons and Nikons both have webcam utilities nowadays for video over USB.
