Question / Help Connecting a Non-USB Microphone

Hello experts,

Please help me even though I'm using a Mac.

I'm trying to get the audio from my external microphone to feed into my OBS stream. Obviously, I know that to get your microphone's signal to broadcast onto your stream, you have to go into OBS, go into "Settings," click "Audio," and set your audio interface (or USB microphone) as a "Mic Auxiliary Audio Device." However, I can't get my audio interface (to which my external microphone is connected and which audio interface is a PreSonus FireStudio Mobile preamplifier) to show up in the dropdown list for "Mic Auxiliary Audio Device" in OBS.

My "preamplifier," if you're unfamiliar, is a device with which I typically record audio in Logic (apple's music recording software). It has XLR cable (mic cable) inputs for microphones, and it connects to my Mac with a firewire 800.

If you have any ideas on how I can get OBS to recognize the presence of the PreSonus preamplifier's firewire 800 connection and thus to populate the PreSonus amplifier in the "Mic Auxiliary Audio Device" dropdown list in OBS, I would think you are such a smart, super intelligent, witty genius. Thank you. And I'm sorry for writing extremely long sentences, but if you're smart enough to follow them, then you probably won't mind.

LOL.

If your Firewire device presents a 'standard' interface (i.e. is Core Audio-compliant), then it should be available in the dropdown list in OBS. That said, I do recall a some issue in Firewire-land+OBS from... I guess it was about a year ago.

I haven't been able to test my Firewire interface because I don't have the cable for it anymore, but if I ever do get another one, I will help test this with Jim.

Now you could try using Soundflower, creating a device that has your firewire I/O in it, and use that in OBS. Also there are a few other audio routing programs for MacOS that you might be able to use.

Thanks c3r1c3. I am going to try these options you've suggested, and I'll post my success or lack thereof asap. Thanks!
