Question / Help Compatibility of OBS with Nikon D810

I’m not new to photography, Photoshop, but I am new to live streaming with OBS. I’ve heard that some Nikon owners do have problems with OBS, but after searching the OBS forums, I only see some old (2016) audio issues.

OBS seems like an OUTSTANDING piece of software,!!! Before I spend a lot of time studying OBS, do you think I will be ok using my Nikon D810 to capture live video and stream using OBS ?

Thank you in advance for your time

Thanks Harold!
In another forum a member said that his new Nikon D850 would not operate with OBS. This same guy had used OBS with his Cannon DSLR.
SO, I was concerned with my Nikon D810. I was considering buy some kind of video if OBS did not work for my model of Nikon, but would rather donate to the open source developers.

I have been watching “how to use OBS” on YouTube and hope I can master this!

Any capture card device you would recommend?

Hi Harold!
I’m trying to do my homework before asking questions! I saw were you answered another question about a DSLR, I believe that your reply was something about DSLR’s are not designed for long timed video.

This makes so much sense!! So, I need to rethink my approach.

We have a small business and want to do multiple live streams each week.

Can you point me in the right direction to learn about the correct camera and needed hardware to stream from a laptop using OBS? Blackmagic starts a 1K plus leneses. I’m willing to invest 3K+
Grateful for your help
Don

How many cameras do you need?
If it's just one, a laptop capable of a blackmagic ultrastudio would be enough to go with the micro studio 4k camera.
If it's more, you're going to want to get away from laptop ASAP.

Personally I don't recommend streaming from laptops in general.

How many cameras? Two
My wife is selling clothing, so I hope to use one camera for shooting her from head to toe (hats, dresses, shoes)
Then one camera to show close-up of dress patterns / colors - shoes etc.

The Blackmagic ultra micro studio uses four thirds lens mount, I don’t think they make an adapter for Nikon full frame lenses (I have over $ 12k in Nikon lenses). In still photography 105mm lens is best for portraits.

What four thirds lens should I use for the head to foot shot? Zooms 30-70?
Maybe a cheap web cam for close up?

Am I asking too many questions?

My two cents, Nikon has its own colors (any manufacturer has) and I don't like for example, how it handles red. Zeiss lenses known for good image quality.

Actually the micro studio takes MICRO four thirds, not regular four thirds.
My current kit has a 14-42 Panasonic (the one that comes with a lumix G3) and a 40-150 olympus (the $100-150 one)
There's also an olympus body-cap style BCL-1580 and a 7artisans manual lens.

Micro four thirds' focal measurements are roughly double, so the 14-42 is roughly equal to a 28-84 and the 40-150 is roughly equal to an 80-300.

If your nikon lenses are F-mount, https://www.amazon.com/Fotodiox-Lens-Mount-Adapter-Mirrorless/dp/B003G49V70

I haven't had a lot of practice with this equipment yet, so I'm not sure which lenses to suggest to you yet.

What resolution / framerate / scan type video are you going to output from your camera? Is audio embedded into the video feed or are you doing it separately (or at all)?

I want to thank you for replying to ALL my question.

What I learned was DSLR are not designed for long videos. Think about nighttime still camera shots of the stars, no exposure greater than 30 sec is recommended, therefore so kind of video camera is recommended.

I also could not get my brain around live streaming PROCESS. Watching YouTube video of Stephan Ballast media was a lot of help. The flow from camera to switcher, converter to cleanup signal, then OBS on PC.
THANKS HAROLD!
