I got a 2 pc setup going on with a capture card. Main monitor is 144hz capture card is 60hz. I Have them set up as extended display so I do full screen projection to the capture card. Honestly, had this issue forever cant figure out what causes this. Most of the time stream comes out okay but there are random moments where it gets choppy or just not fluid 60fps. Im on windows 10 and even if I lower my main 144hz to 60hz the preview is still laggy. Also tried limiting frames in games makes no difference. Wondering if anyone experiences a choppy/laggy/low fps preview? Obs logs doesnt show any issues and iv tried like everything and nothing makes a difference. Iv read almost every thread about similar issues and alot of them have no solutions.

Well, decided to take the capture card out of the equation. Connected a 2nd monitor to my gaming pc. Ran the game exclusive fullscreen mode on the 144hz and had obs opened with the preview on the 2nd monitor 60hz. Dropping my main monitor to 60hz made no difference neither did vsync, preview remains laggy. It starts out ok for like a min or 2 then gets laggy and finally choppy. It wouldnt be a problem if the stream/recording were not impacted but they are. It sometimes looks fine and smooth other times it doesnt look fluid 60fps and sometimes theres moments where its straight up choppy and laggy. Now this is just previewing i dont even have to record or stream.

Yes many people have this laggy preview/stream problem as you will have seen when you search this forum.

Has been happening for over 12 months on windows 10 & OBS.

So far no real solutions. OBS devs need to really look into this.

Wow, thats a bummer I might dual boot windows 7 and see how it works on that one. Same here i had this issue for a long time and I thought it was my capture card or something but its not.

windows 7 does the same shyt aero on/off preview still is laggy. Gpu usage is 50-60% seems like it cant hold a steady 60fps in the full screen preview. Idk what the issue is i have nothing installed on there other then the mobo drivers and nvidia drivers.

Can definetly confirm the stuttering preview issue, along with other strange and unknown lag / jitter / stutter issues when recording / streaming and so on.

Is there any other streaming software worth checking out ?
Don't think so, OBS is the best software for Streaming especially. Sadly it has many problems and issues for many people. There are dozens of new threads and posts, created by different users daily, even hourly about some kind of diffuculty or issue...

Do you know of any software I can use to capture my desktop? I really want to try and do a fullscreen preview or similar thing with a different program to see if I still get these weird lags.

Well I tried cloning at 144hz.. this way i wouldnt have to do the fullscreen preview and run obs on my gaming pc and what do you know preview is fine and runs at 60fps on my stream pc other then now there is some screen tearing. I got some test vids so il link them soon.

log: https://hastebin.com/iwulewulaq

144hz clone its fluid 60fps but has screen tearing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2NXvZ73IoWQ&t=67s
Fullscreen preivew not fluid 60fps https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RyieKOwaQcU&t=18s

Tried some more recordings right now and honestly the preview does what it wants lol. I dont know what causes it sometimes it will be smooth other times it gets laggy. However, on the cloned setup the output video is smooth and fluid 60fps even if the preview is laggy/choppy. Just sharing my experience.

I think I possibly fixed the laggy preview on my stream pc. Had gpuZ opened and for some reason my gpu was fluctuating from pcie 2.0 back to 1.1 even with obs running. Also gpu load was all over the place from like 1% it would jump to 90/100 then back down then back up and it was a mess. I used DDU to uninstall the amd drivers. After I reinstalled them gpu stayed at pcie 2.0 when obs was running. Also the gpu load was steady at 20%. I will do a longer recording tonight to see if i get any problems.

On a side note when i tried to start fortnite I have resolution issues when cloning my main with the capture card. Actually in all games this happens which is weird. When I launch a game the monitor will flicker and i can see the desktop icons changing to 720p and then the game will start and it will be in 1080p. However, when I was changing the volume and the slider popped up its extra large like it running in 720. Now unlike other games fortnite wont run at 1080, loading screen is 1080 then i get into the game and its 720 and i cant change the resolution as it does nothing.. its like hard locked.

Main monitor is 1080 native, capture card is set at 1080 but... in settings it shows up as 720 native which im assuming is why im getting this issue. Its a avermedia lgx GC550.

any idea on how I can fix this? its just non stop problems -__-

Hey there everyone! I came here looking for the same problem the only solution I found thus far that has worked and is kind of annoying.

Start up your game
Start your Streamlabs or OBS on the streaming PC
instead of using OBS on your gaming pc to project your screen you simply duplicate the screen to the capture card
It's not ideal as it's kind of annoying with resolution changes but it made my stream super smooth.

I also was able to sustain 144hz. My game thinks I'm playing at 1080p but you can render higher or just leave it. Honestly when I'm streaming its not terribly noticeable.

But since you opened your game first and its at 144hz and at whatever resolution it tends to stay after you combine your monitors.

I know it aint much and not ideal but I hope it helps someone!
