Choppy/laggy recordings with seemingly ideal settings on Mac

I am trying to record some discussion videos for a YouTube channel. I host the 1-on-1 discussions on Discord and I have attempted to record one of the discussions on OBS multiple times with no success. The playback is unwatchable with extremely laggy/choppy footage and out-d-sync audio - even though the discord call is totally smooth in real-time. What’s even more strange is that I used to stream audio production footage about a year-and-a-half half ago while simultaneously recording it, and I was able to do that with no issue - even though my internet was slower then than it is now. I have the exact same settings I used a year-and-a-half ago aside from a much lower bitrate now. I also cannot stream anything either due to lag, although that’s less of a priority rn.
