Capturing the center area in a game - need assistance!

I'm playing a game, Elite Dangerous on 3 screens, 4098x768 in-game. I had everything set up to record the center area (see picture) before OBS stopped recording my game. I uninstalled and reinstalled OBS and can again see the game in OBS and record! Yay!
However I can't figure how I had set up to record only a portion of the 4098x768. It's the blue box area I want to record.
Can anyone help?

Hmmm... well, the problem that cropped up last month was after an update to OBS my recording area was blank. I finally uninstalled and reinstalled, and the main screen in the attached jpg came up. I thought everything was working again. Much to my surprise once I actually started the game it went blank again and I can't record the game again. Sigh.
 
Can anyone suggest a screen recorder that can start / end recording with a hotkey? Looks like OBS won't work with Elite Dangerous anymore.
