Question / Help Capturing screen

Hi,

I am new to trying OBS and I just recently installed it. I am trying to create instructional videos to use in my office for support with softwares and thought this would be the right fit. I am looking to be able to record the software on my screen and also capture any menu's dialog boxes and other additional things that may be part of the software.

I tried window capture and it allows me to see the software and record the what i do but does not allow the dialog boxes to show.

I have tried display capture and game capture but i just get black boxes. Is what I am asking for a posibility with OBS or should i be looking at other softwares.

You can capture menus and dialog boxes with the display capture source. Unfortunately, Window capture doesn't capture these, and game capture is for capturing applications that use directx for output, usually games.
