Question / Help Captured window no longer working in 18.0.1

Used to do alot of streaming, but that was 9month ago or so. So other version of OBS Studio.

Started OBS and did update to see what changes been made, looked around at my setup and seems like the video capturing of my songs is no longer working as it used to.

So I do capture window, I select the correct window, everything looks oki, but once the video starts playing in that window OBS does not seem to recognize it, and still keeps capturing a green empty screen.

Monitor Capture is capturing the video, but does not seems like "Window Capture" is capturing the video like it used to do.

If anyone have any clue why its no longer working, please let me know.
If anyone have any suggestions of test for me to do, let me know. And Ill test it.

As far as I know, foobar is audio player (not video). You should enable different overlay renderer (output type etc.) in foobar, to be able to capture video from overlay... Because the video not rendered to the window as I see.

You are correct and not. The video is from Foobar in a way, Im using a plugin that shows a video. But you are correct that by default FooBar does not show video. But the plugin is using FooBar. So yha...

But that should not be the problem, since I have captured the window like this for 1-2 years.
(yes software has been updated since I last did this (9-ish month ago), both OBS and FooBar.)
(And yes all my drivers are latest versions)

But as you can see in the video, OBS finds the window, and it captures it. Clearly since you see the green window, and it does capture the mouse over the green window when I move the mouse there, clearly in the video.

And when you say "Because the video not rendered to the window as I see." then I have no clue what you are refering to, or how to confirm or deny what you just said.

If it helps to find problem: Image of FooBar settings reg "Video" http://prntscr.com/em5nds

Either you need to disable Aero theme from Windows Personalization (the overlapping windows not transparent from now on!) or forget about this video plugin for foobar at all (ask plugin's developer about changes since v1.15 of the plugin).

Try other video player to playback movies.

Also, maybe capture works under W8-10?..

Can you help me understand why you're trying to capture the video from foobar instead of just adding it directly to OBS? What's the advantage there? Not saying there's not an issue here, just curious what the use case is.

Media sources in OBS Studio has unhandy playback controls, that's why. I think so. foo_youtube_1.18.2 component has build-in search; playlist easy adjustable by mouse; it can show song title (or other text) over the video.

I wasn't asking you. I know what a media player is, thank you.

Several reasons,
FooBar has a playlist over 2k songs, with other features like "random" songs, adding song information to text files to add to display on stream and "bot" to grab and type in chat, displaying equalizers, displaying lenght of song. Im using an extra keyboard with a few keys dedicated to "Play" "Stop" "Next Song" "Previous Song" List is long of the benefits...

Not to mention that I use this playlist as my favorite songs, so I use it alot also when not streaming, just want to listen to music.

I think you nailed it.

I installed "Wallpaper Engine" a few days ago. And that forced me to enable "Aero", and at that time I could not remember why I had it dissabled in the first place, but I knew it was "some reason" and now that you say it.
Yha... That is 99% most likely the cause of why its not working any more.

Edit: Dissabled Aero, and tested. And yha the windows capture work again.

Questions...
*1* Any idea how I can use Aero in windows and still capture the window?
*2* Or will I be forced to do a "Display Capture" and use Crop to cut down to right size?
*3* How large is the differnce in stress/workload on my computer "Windows Capture" vs "Cropped Display Capture"
*4* Any other relevant differnaces between "Cropped Display Capture" vs "Windows Capture"
*5" Any other relevant differnaces between using "Aero" vs not using "Aero" all in all in relation with streaming with OBS.
*6* Side question, what is the actuall differnce of the filter "Color Key" and "Chroma Key".

Answers:
  1. Contact plugins developer and ask him to alternate plugin's rendering engine. Try Windows 8...10.
  2. I recommend to cropping with ALT key.
  3. Less than between 'Game Capture' and 'Window Capture'.
  4. 'Display Capture' includes all layers and window elements.
  5. With Aero "disabled" overlapping windows cover each other content when capturing. With Aero (and desktop composition) "enabled" you can cover captured window with other program window and content of the bottom window still be captured.
  6. Edit: Slightly different options to cut the color from the background. Chroma filter suitable for "green screen" live action, while Key filter for removing color backgrounds from images, program windows etc.
Just in case, OBS Studio Help Guide: https://obsproject.com/forum/resour...ware-studio-multiplatform-help-guide-pdf.365/
