Capture menu tabs from Canon R3

Hi, I have seen a lot of videos, on you tube, with tutorials about setting the photocameras. In these tutorials menu tabs are showed during the different setting phases. I have a new Canon R3 and a Mac iStudio. I have no probs using my iPhone as webcam, no probs getting screen capture, but i am getting crazy to get the menu tabs of my camera on a scene to be included in the obs video. The only way was connecting my camera via hdmi with my Eizo monitor, but in this case I am not able to use OBS studio, as i don't see it. I imagine mine is a stupid question, but I cannot solve by myself this problem. Any help? Tanks, Antonio

Hi Antonio,

Just to confirm, you would like to create a photography video/stream in which everything you see on your Canon R3's display is recorded?

If that's the case, this isn't an issue for the mac support section of the OBS forum, but happy to give a quick answer.

It sounds like you have an HDMI to USB converter set as an input in OBS, and your camera's HDMI out is plugged into that? If you're getting a clean feed without menus and would like to see the menus in the OBS input, you need to go into your R3's settings, find its HDMI output/monitor settings, and change that to whatever Canon calls the non-clean output. This info should be available through your search engine, I only know Sony and old Nikon menus so can't help further.

Hi, thanks for your support. I will try to explain better, but my english is not so good. I would like to register a video tutorial in which, besides screen capture, my face when i talk, etc.. I would like to show the menu settings of my camera, as I see it looking on the small lcd on my camera. If you look on you tube for a video about camera settings, you will see what I mean.
My camera has two output exit: One usb C type and one micro hdmi. I have both cable: One hdmi to micro hdmi and the other one is an usb c to usb c. Both males. I want to show the settings for still photos, so I have to keep the camera in photo mode (not video) to see the menus I want to show. I have tried all the possible combination and the only way to see these menus on the monitor is to connect my camera via hdmi directly to monitor and not via computer. Obviously in this way it not works on OBS, and I cannot see obs as I have to switch the input port of my monitor from usb c to hdmi. I think I will never succeed. I really appreciate your try on supporting me.
This is an example of what I would like to do: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CC132RF-HC0
Thanks

Cool, thanks for the extra detail.

Forgot about USB input when assuming you already have an HDMI to USB converter. My experience of using DSLR/Mirrorless USB output is it's a clean, webcam-like feed, not what you're looking for. I don't know if Canon will allow you to change what's output over type c, but I'm guessing not.

What you need is a device which can turn an HDMI signal into a USB webcam. I've had mixed success on macOS with the Elgato Cam Link 4K (more of a Windows-focused device), so have a look around at what might work best for your purposes and budget.

You can absolutely do what you're seeking to do, so don't give up!

I think that i need a piece of software that canon has, it's called web utility but, ridiculous to say, works with a lot of cameras, but not is compatible with mine that is the top of gamma of mirrorless. I think I have to wait for an upgrade. The only things that I do not understand how, many youtuber, are able to do it with my camera model. Thanks again.

At the end I solved the problem. It was quite easy and not expensive. I bought, for 20 euros a video acquisition device:

Rybozen Audio Video.

I connected the hdmi output of my canon R3 to the input hdmi of the device and the the usb output of the device to the usb of my mac. OBS reconized immediately the new video source and everything worked very smooth. Thanks to all for support.
