Question / Help Capture Device Compatibility with OBS

Hey I've been doing some looking around for a capture card to stream various things to Twitch.tv, and OBS has easily been my favorite capture software out of what I have used so far, so I would like to continue using it with whatever card I end up getting. From what I understand though, only some cards are compatible with the direct capture device option in the software, which I guess just depends on which cards the people working on OBS have been able to get their hands on and implement. I have looked around some and found one or two that do for sure like the Blackmagic Intensity Pro and the El Gato but I would like to have as many options as possible.

Could anyone list off some cards which would work with this function? Or possibly help me to understand the subject better as I am having a hard time finding anything concrete on it, which leads me to believe I'm maybe approaching this the wrong way.

Capture cards are IMO overrated. You only truly need one if you are capturing from a separate device.
What are you trying to do?

I'm trying to stream console games, I've been streaming PC games for years now and have been playing mostly console ones lately so I decided to branch out

Both the BMIP and El Gato devices have some driver issues that cause them to not work very well with OBS at the moment. Personally, I would recommend an AverMedia card of some sort, the recent cards like the Live Gamer HD and Game Broadcaster HD aren't bad, and typically work out of the box in OBS. My personal favorite is the AverMedia C027/h727 (US/Europe), but keep in mind that it doesn't take 1080p input at all, max is 720p, it supports composite, S-Video, component (up to 1080i) and HDMI (up to 1080i as well). (Not that most of the current console games actually render at 1080p, but I can still understand if it's a deal breaker.)

The BMIP actually works fine, but requires some proper tweaking apparently. The only devices that I can recall off the top of my head that have issues at the moment are: Elgato (sync issues), hauppauge devices (does not work at all, but can in the future), and I think roxio (doesn't work at all, super proprietary device, most likely never will).

If you are streaming an interlaced video input, OBS does not currently support native deinterlacing. You have to use a workaround or a device that automatically does it. PS3 cannot capture HDMI due to the PS3's HDCP copy protection, so you have to get a workaround for that or use component cables.

Hey does anyone know how to setup the BMIP and OBS to stream the PS3? When I try to do it I get a black screen. I even tried to use AmarecTV but that gives me a red screen.

PS3 has HDCP, so you can't capture HDMI with it. You have to get some sort of bypass or use component, I believe.

Just hook the PS3 up to Black magic with component cables and it should work.

That is what I did. When I use the blackmagic program, it works fine just not when I want to stream it.

Is the Intensity Pro the only one that works, or do the other Intensity products work? I wanted to get the Intensity Shuttle for USB 3.0 but not if it won't work...

Audio for USB capture cards does not currently work, as they all seem to use non-standard ways out outputting audio, the Blackmagic Shuttle is no exception.

So besides the BMIP, what non-USB capture cards work for sure? I want to stream HD consoles (360 and WiiU).

It's not that it's non-standard I think, it's more I don't currently have the code to properly implement them. It's just a bit "weird", so to speak. Not sure how to handle it entirely though

is there any updates to compatible capture devices? im mostly looking to see is the roxio game capture HD pro, or the Elgato game capture HD can work under the source 'video capture device'.
