Question / Help Capture card? Suggestions and rants welcome

Jack0r i'm using the Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle USB 3.0 for Livestreaming and it works as stable as the internal Intensity Pro PCIe.

Got an Avermedia Extreme Cap USB too and it was the biggest crap ... loosing signal and complete hang up.

The Blackmagic never crash and gives the best Picture as well !

I agree, Blackmagic cards tend to be the most stable. In addition, they capture at uncompressed quality (at least the PCIe versions do). NONE of the Avermedia cards do uncompressed capture; they are always pre-compressed using h.264. They also have issues with HDCP handshakes.

If you can use a Blackmagic, and can afford it... they tend to have the most consistent results. I love my Decklink 4K Extreme.

... Absolutely do not use any products in the Live Gamer line, as they are not worth the headache.

That being said, the c127 is probably one of the best capture cards I have ever used... its an ANCIENT card at this point, but I still swear by it because it just works, without issues. I've bought many capture devices over the years, and usually end up selling them off after a month because the majority of them are crap. Don't bother with any USB devices if you can avoid it.

Hi Jaxel

What is worst on AVM C985 vs C127? I'm having a little issue with C985

Maybe you can lead me where to investigate or to switch C985 with C127.

cheers,
Dorin

It's simple, the c127 is great... The c985 is terrible. I bought two of them back in the day, and I'm still trying to sell them off... No one wants this piece of shit.

Elgato's capture solutions are great, but the delay on the USB 2.0 external cards is a pain (used the original Game Capture HD).

Upgraded to Avermedia Livegamer Extreme and it's worked great so far!

The HD 60 Pro is an internal capture card :) The HD 60 might be usb2.0, I have no idea actually.
Ah yes, my mistake. I thought you were refering to the standard HD60, I got confused. But yeah, the standard HD60 is USB2.0 which is a MAJOR mistake by Elgato. Having a 1080p60 device that runs over USB2.0 is almost like putting wooden wheels on a Porche.....

It's a very good solution as long as you're recording and intend to do plenty of post-processing (or you do everything with their own software). It's horrible with other applications like OBS/XSplit.

I would agree, but the Avermedia Live Gamer Extreme is USB3.0 and its cheaper than the HD60. So there is literally no scenario, where the HD60 is a better option....

I have an old AverMedia C027 (PCI-E), which can capture from (composite or s-video) and (component or HDMI) at the same time, but there is no 1080p input, only 720p, 1080i, and lower. All analog inputs are somewhat blurry, HDMI is ok. This was the cheapest 720p I can get back then.

I do have "intel USB 3.0 Extensible host controller" on a motherboard "Asus P8H77-M/CSM" so i might look for USB 3.0 capture soon as all my pci-e slots is in use. USB 3.0 capture needs a good USB 3.0 controller, and I think mine is good.

I do like to look at Newegg reviews first, except most of USB 3.0 capture card reviews are mostly bad so far, and it appears a few of bad reviews was the result of poor USB 3.0 controller/hardware compatibility. I might just wait for better reviews or cheaper price.

Well yeah, which is why I got an LGX. But at the time the HD60 came out there was only the Avermedia Extremecap U3 if you wanted 1080p@60fps. So the HD60 filled a void (for a time).

ASUS MOBOs tend to have issues with USB 3.0 capture cards... you will probably need a discreet card. I recommend this:

Any thoughts/experience about the Blackmagic Decklink Extreme 4K 12G in OBS? Wondering since I got this URSA 4k camera that I would like to use in OBS.

It will be single input, but because it is a decklink series card, you will be able to capture with it in OBS cleanly and will be able to use the blackmagic device source type for it. You will also likely be able to get a 4k feed from the camera into obs.
