Hey peeps,

Looking to buy an external capture card for recording some gameplay for my stream and need a bit of help if possible.

The external capture cards I'm looking at have HDMI IN/OUT connections however, the monitors I use only have VGA / DVI-D.

So the setup would be:

CONSOLE TO CAPTURE CARD VIA HDMI

CAPTURE CARD TO MONITOR VIA HDMI TO DVI-D

CAPTURE CARD TO PC VIA USB

Would this allow sound capture still does anyone know?

Help much appreciated

No. DVI does not transmit sound. Only video. You will have to find an alternate way to get sound to your capture card.

I believe the capture card will receive the sound fine as its HDMI from the console to the capture card, the main question was would the sound be picked up from the capture card by the computer still?

Appreciate the reply.

Yes, the sound from the console will go into your capture card, and that will be picked up by your computer. but you wont get any sound going to your monitor, because DVI does not transmit sound.

CAPTURE CARD TO MONITOR VIA HDMI TO DVI-D = NO SOUND
CAPTURE CARD TO PC VIA USB = YES SOUND

Ok thanks for explaining, apologies if I'm a little confusing with my explanation. But as long as the PC can pick up the sound, OBS can then pick it up right? Thus being audible for the stream?

Once again, thanks for the help.
