Capture card audio crackling, OBS detecting incorrect sample rate from Elgato HD60 X

Heya,

I bought a new Elgato HD60 X capture card this week and whenever I use it in OBS on Windows, the captured audio from either my PS5 or my Switch 2 has a persistent pop/crackle to it, like a dirty vinyl sound. Looking at my last OBS log I've found that despite Windows saying the card is locked to 48khz, OBS is treating the sample rate as 44.1khz. If I plug the Elgato into my Mac, that correctly reads it as 48khz and has no crackle.

The noise is also present when I monitor the audio via Streamlabs or Elgato 4K Capture Utility, but it isn't when I monitor it via an audio-only app like VoiceMeeter. If I have the audio routed through VoiceMeeter and then open OBS, the audio starts crackling again even though it's not being monitored in OBS. The crackling does stop again if I remove all sources using the Elgato card or close OBS again.

OBS is on version 32.0.1 and my Windows is Windows 11 v.24H2. So far I have done a BIOS update to rule out USB port problems and tested the Elgato in each of my PC's USB 3.2 ports, uninstalled and reinstalled the HD60 X and updated drivers, updated my chipset and reinstalled Nvidia driver with no Nvidia app or audio. Also set OBS to 44.1khz and back to 48khz but that did nothing. Haven't tried uninstalling and reinstalling OBS yet, but it's just gone 1am here so that's a morning job

Anyone have any ideas to try or thoughts on why Windows and OBS are showing different sample rates for the same capture card? Thanks in advance!

...why Windows and OBS are showing different sample rates for the same capture card?
44100 is hardcoded in OBS for Video Capture Devices.
See, for details:

You can simply mute the capture card source and add an audio input capture source to select the Elgato there, although based on what you are saying I wouldn't expect this to fix it.....you need to reach out to Elgato.

I have been having the exact same problem and been digging and digging on how to fix this scouring feeds and I beleive I have finally figured it!
The issue doesnt lie with the elgato or the pc its with the sound volumes on the actual ps5 itself going into the capture card.
I do run a chat link pro cable as I want to hear game audio and game chat audio in my headset.
I found reducing the ps5s controller volume slightly and the mic level has gotten rid of the audio crackle and pop you hear at higher dbs in OBS and the 4k utility tool.
I didn't need to add any filters or extra pieces of gear.
I hope this helps

I’ve been experiencing the exact same issue and spent quite a bit of time digging through feeds and troubleshooting. I think I’ve finally figured it out!

I use a Chat Link Pro cable because I want to hear both game audio and chat audio through my headset.
