Question / Help Capture Card and 2560x1440 resolution

Having major issues here. Spent upwards of a grand to get some additional parts to put together a 2nd computer.

Got this avermedia card in there which supports up to 1080 resolution.

I game mainly at 2560x1440 resolution.

So here is where the issue starts. If I run my hdmi straight to the avermedia card, it forces my 2560x1440 monitor down to 1080. I was thinking about possibly grabbing an hdmi splitter to go to my main monitor and the capture card. I assume this will not work as my gpu would have to output a 1080 resolution for the capture card to work properly.

Is there anyway to do this?

To clarify what I am trying to do. I would like my 2560x1440 monitor to stay at the resolution while at the same time being able to output a 1080 resolution to the capture card. Is this possible?

Edit: Took a look at some of the high end decklink stuff and cant even begin to understand what I would need to buy.

After further investigation I see that 4k capture cards are available from decklink but 2560x1440 is not? If I have to move up to 4k to be able to use a capture card then I will damn right do it.

ANY suggestions beyond dropping down to 1080 on my main gaming computer would be GREAT!

I experimented a lot with cloning my screen (Nvidia) with one screen being at 1920x1080 and what I send to my capture card being at 1280x720. It just won't work. A splitter won't work for you either I'm pretty sure. You need a capture card able to handle the input at the same resolution you're playing it at.

One thing that does work is gaming and cloning a screen at different framerates. But resolution can't be adjusted like that.

Personally I've gotten around this with a higher-end capture card, I'm using a Datapath VisionDVI-DL right now. They can occasionally be found on Ebay at prices significantly less than MSRP, but I checked yesterday randomly and didn't see any cheap ones.

A better option may be to check out the guide on streaming video over your internal network, the 2 PC Solution with no capture card thread.

I know this isn't directly relevant for OBS and yet somehow.

If you play in 1440p/2K (2560x1440), and run on a HDMI cable, you most likely won't receive larger screen-data than 1080p or your screen won't be able to maintain 60Hz. I have a 4K monitor and was strongly adviced to use DVI cable to have 60Hz and a nice transfer.

What you could do is to buy a DVI and connect your monitor to your Computer. Then run the HDMI to your recorder. In your screen options then you would probably see two screens due to two outputs. Then select "Dublicate" and you'll see your screen in normal resolution and the capture would receive 1080p or hopefully 2K as well.

At least that's how I'd have done it.
