Can't use separate camera apps at the same time as obs

I'm having some trouble with OBS taking camera priority over my Zoom app even when I am not using any camera capture in OBS.
This started very recently, maybe less than a month ago, previously we were able to capture a game and our zoom call at the same time using the desktop capture function. Now when we log in to OBS our Zoom video drops to a black screen, the Zoom error code is that the camera is in use by OBS.

Is there a way to disable the camera for OBS so it no longer tries to take over my webcam every time I log in?

Remove your webcam from ALL scenes in OBS.
Most webcams can only be used by one program at a time. OBS 'touches' all of its needed resources when it starts, not just the ones on the current active scene, to make sure they're all present and ready. So yes, OBS will be 'using' your camera while it's running, if you've set up your webcam as a Video Capture Device in ANY scene. This is normal operation, and expected.

You *may* be able to go into the VCD Source you've set up for your webcam in OBS and select the box 'disable when not visible' so OBS won't 'touch' the camera unless you're on a scene where the camera is actually present as a visible source in-use.
