Question / Help Can't use LGP Stream Engine with PS2 Games

Hey guys,

I'm in a really odd situation here. I'm on a Widnows 7 64-bit laptop with an i5 CPU, and my capture card is an AVerMedia C875. I'm trying to stream PS2 games with my capture card through OBS while using the LGP Stream Engine program, but every time I do I just get a black screen.

I can stream PS3, 360, etc. games perfectly fine with no issues, both through the Component and HDMI inputs. I'm using Component cables with the PS2 and connecting them to the AV-in port on the capture card, and I'm using an HDMI-out cable to send the signal to my TV as well. The bizarre problem is that I'm using the exact same setup as I do when I stream on PS3 and I have no problems there, and the signal is picked up on my TV as well as with AVerMedia RECentral, and XSplit picks up the signal perfectly fine. OBS doesn't, although I believe that's more of a problem with the LGP Stream Engine program than OBS.

The really odd thing is what comes up on the Stream Engine; if I'm playing a 50 FPS game, it comes up that the video signal is 720x288. If I'm playing a 60 FPS game, it comes up as 720x240. That makes absolutely no sense because that aspect ratio is totally absurd. It might have something to do with interlacing issues, but I've messed around as much as I can with the settings in both the Stream Engine and OBS to no avail.

Here's a picture of what comes up in the Stream Engine:

Lastly here's a link to a log file of a test stream. https://gist.github.com/anonymous/16c3681f0c655ecfb68f

Any ideas or suggested fixes would be really appreciated.

Any ideas, guys? I saw that almost a year ago another poster came on this forum and had the exact same problem, but got no reply. So any advice would be super appreciated.

Hi Shirdel,

I see that your game capture card works well with PS3, Xbox and more generations however I do not see any mention of PlayStation 2 support. Did it work before? It might just because your capture card doesn't co-operate with the PS2 itself.

Hey,

Well, I mentioned in the first post that the PS2 signal works perfectly fine in RECentral (the recording software that comes with the LGP Card), in XSplit and on my TV through the HDMI-out port. It's just a case of streaming with OBS/LGP Stream Engine that doesn't work.

Oh. Sorry; I must've misread. Weird, maybe OBS itself has no compatibility with PS2 software in this case then?

I have been able to stream PS2 games on my older capture card; however, that's only Composite while this capture card is Component. I'm not sure, but I feel like the problem is with the LGP Stream Engine program, noting it's saying the resolutions are 720x288/720x240 when that blatantly isn't the case. I just don't know why it's saying that, though. :/

Yeah, sorry I don't know to fix your problem. Hope you find out for yourself though.

OBS Multiplatform supports the LGP without the stream engine however the audio consistently stutters. I think this is an issue which will hopefully be resolved. You could try that and see what happens. Maybe the audio wont stutter on component? I dunno.

I tried OBS Multiplatform and it did work, but I had the audio stutter issues exactly like you said :/

That's great, there are other ways of getting audio to obs without using the LGP. You run a cable from the Aux out on the LGP into a mic input and then select this as the audio device inside OBS. If you have a desktop then you probably have two mic inputs anyway.
