Can't seem to be able to record a quality video in 1080x1920

No matter what I do, I can't seem to get a quality video to record in 1080x1920. (Note: recording, not streaming, this is simply for social media use)

I have a monster of a PC, with a Logitech BRIO 4k camera.

I've manually changed the video base and output resolutions to 1080x1920, then manually adjusted the recording to fit the window frame...but it's just pixelated.

All I am trying to get is an HD recording in a vertical orientation, is this simply not possible on OBS in 1080x1920?

I've even had audio/visual tech companies say "yea man, I don't know how to get that to work" when I've explained this to them. Which makes me think this isn't something OBS is capable of.

OBS Studio creates a log file each time you run it which contains very useful diagnostic information. Without a log file, it's much harder for any support volunteers to figure out problems and your post may be ignored. To upload a log file, go to the Help menu > Log Files > Upload Last Log...

You're recording at 2500kbps, so it's not surprising it will look crappy. Go back to simple mode and pick one of the presets. Make sure your camera is also set to 4k or you will be stretching 1080px to 1920px which will also degrade quality.

Switched to simple. There doesn't appear to be presets for Recording (streaming seems to default at 2500kbps, but I'm not streaming). After changing to simple (image below), there does not appear to be an improvement in image quality.

No idea how to set the camera specifically to 4k. Is this a setting within OBS? There wasn't any specific software with the Logitech Brio camera itself.

For example, under the camera settings in OBS, it does not give me the ability to change resolution itself.

When I change Device Default to Custom, the highest res it allows is still 1920x1080

You may have connected the Brio to a USB2 port or are using a poor quality cable. As an alternative you could rotate the camera itself then correct it in OBS.

I have 5 USB ports and have cycled through each with no success. The cable is the one that came with the Brio 4k, so I would assume that is 4k capable.

Rotating the camera leaves me with the same resolution sadly.

Scratch that, I have 7 USB ports, you can see 6 here but Im not sure what the labeling means.

The red "SS10" should be the fastest port. Even though rotating the camera won't change the resolution, this will mean you won't have to stretch the vertical resolution to fill a vertical canvas, so should provide better quality.

Funny enough, going back to original settings still leaves me with dead space in a 1920x1080.

No idea why it is doing this.

Instead of using device default, try setting it to 1920x1080. Then select the source and press Ctrl+R to reset any transforms and it should hopefully fit the canvas.

That actually worked to allow it to take up the whole window. Still getting graininess, but one step closer. I wonder what is causing that.

Funny enough, you can see all the video "noise" even with the lense down.

It's like it's recording in a snow storm.

That's usually the case with consumer webcams, they have high gain to make up for the lack of lighting in most indoor setups. It adds a lot of noise but is the only way to get a decent picture a lot of the time. You can adjust the gain using the "configure video" button on the properties to see if it helps. You might have too high expectations for what the webcam can do.

It's possible, I just didn't expect a 4k webcam to be significantly worse than the front facing camera of a standard smart phone.
I'd love to be able to use my Blue Mic with the recordings, and I have yet to figure out how to do that with the smart phone.
