Question / Help Can't See Rescale Output Checkbox for NVENC H.264 (new)?

Hi there,

I am currently recording at 1080p and streaming at 720p (Facebook), using version 24.0.3 (64-bit).

I'd like to use the new NVENC encoder for both. I can select it for recording output and that works fine, but when I select the NVENC H.264 (new) encoder for the streaming output, it doesn't show me the rescale output checkbox, and so I am having to use the old NVENC for streaming.

Is it possible to rescale the output with the new encoder so that I can use it for both?

My base (canvas) resolution is 3840x2160 (same as my laptop screen), and the output (scaled) resolution is 1920x1080.

Thanks!

Rescaling is disabled for the nvenc (new) encoder, but is possible if you use the previous nvenc encoder (the entry without "(new)").

If you want to use nvenc for both, use the "nvenc (new)" encoder for recording without rescaling, and the "nvenc" encoder (without (new)) for streaming with downscaled resolution, so you already found the solution/workaround.

By the way, by using a canvas size of 3840x2160, you're putting more than necessary load upon your machine, if you want to always downscale to 1920x1080 anyway. Set the canvas size to 1920x1080 as well and fit the capture source to the canvas. Your output will look exactly the same, but the system load is lower. In this case, the first rescaling will take place within the source and not after OBS did compositing. This way, OBS has a much smaller canvas to handle (1/4 the size), thus much lower GPU load.
