League of Legends is a 32-bit game, so make sure you're using the 32-bit version of OBS.

Company of heroes is pretty problematic from what I recall when I tried it. Just went totally wacky with it because the game kept switching resolutions constantly or something and bugging out on me in general (more bad game engine design than anything). If there is another way I'd probably suggest that for the time being. I don't even think the game has a windowed mode.

Can someone explain the difference in the Open Broadcaster Software (32bit) and (64bit) shortcuts? I don't remember there being two in the previous version I was using (0.459a) but I could be wrong. The reason I ask is because I have been using the 64bit version and also unable to hook any of my games. So I started just using software capture. I was using the 64bit because I am on a 64bit rig and thought it corresponded with our OS not the games we are playing. As far as I know there are very few 64bit games.

Thanks for the clarification.

The 32-bit shortcut starts the 32-bit version of OBS, I'll let you guess what the 64-bit version does. :) OBS has had dual versions for ages, definitely way before 0.459a.

You can only use game capture with applications/games matching the version of OBS you're currently running. If you wish to capture a 32-bit game, use 32-bit OBS, if you wish to capture a 64-bit game, use 64-bit OBS.

Yes, the game has a windowed mode and that's the solution of all your trouble, unfortunately that has nothing to do with my problem of streaming it with Game Capture instead of Software Capture

Game capture is not the end-all be-all of capturing. I implemented it as a method to capture fullscreen games. The capture method involves injecting code into the game, capturing the frames as they are displayed, and sending them cross-process back to my app. This is generally not a simple type of capture. I will be working on increasing stability in the future but the capture method in general due to its nature is going to have these risks. The fastest most stable capture method is generally window capture otherwise, so I usually recommend people use it instead of game capture if they are able to run their game in a windowed mode. With aero enabled it's just as fast usually.

Ok thanks!!!

edit: i assume that by window capture you mean Software Capture and not choosing Monitor but winodw and selecting the game right?

Strange - I have absolutely no problem with Company of Heroes using Game Capture. Works perfectly on my very old gaming setup (CPU - Q9550, 4GB RAM - Streaming 960x600). (Using 0.466 not 0.47 if that makes any difference)

Hello, I have the same issue of "black screen" when I try to use Game Capture on League Of Legends. I have tried the 32-bit version of OBS and still nothing. I run OBS on admin mode.

I don't know what's happening. Sometimes the detection of Game Capture "crashes" and doesn't show the game, even if I refresh it. So, when that happens, I need to restart the computer (the problem doesn't fix if I restart the application).

My screen is black until I ALT-TAB back to the game. For example: I start OBS (32-bit) start CoH, ALT-TAB to OBS - preview stream and ALT-TAB back to CoH. Now when I ALT-TAB back to OBS, my preview does show CoH. Now I switch from preview to start streaming and all works fine. I also overlay my webcam. Hope this helps someone else.

I also have a problem with League of Legends. I can see the game when in the match but the lobby and champion select are not visible in OBS and I can not find it with add>game capture. I've tried it with both clients, 32 and 64 bit but the programs does not seem to recognize it. This is bit problematic since between matches I have black screen in stream and the champion selection is not available for viewers.

The lobby/champion select are running with Adobe AIR, game capture only sees DirectX 9 or higher and OpenGL. You need to have a separate scene with either window capture or monitor capture for this. Luckily, the the "Development" section of the forums, a kind soul has made an automatic scene switcher program that should handle these required scene switches for you.

I had same problem in Company of Heroes with blackscreen, when I used game capture, and helps me lowering detail Shader Quality from Ultra to High in game option. And you must run 32bit version of OBS.
