does it do this on launch of when you press start record or stream?

something with the nVidia driver is crashing OBS

post your logfile from the help menu, but more than likely you will need to fix the driver issue you have prior to getting obs to work. OBS relies on the GPU for scaling and other tasks so this will be mandatory.
