Question / Help Can't get voice and game audio at the same time (Elgato)

Hi. Yesterday was my first time trying OBS -- and I just couldn't manage to get the audio to work. I tried searching for a fix, I watched a lot of setup videos on YouTube, but nothing helped.

Basically, it doesn't matter what I set as far as my "Desktop Audio Device" or "Microphone/Auxiliary Audio Device" in the settings. The only thing that seems to matter audio-wise is what I set in the "Device Selection" area. Whatever I choose under "Audio Input Device" is all that works. So, if I choose my mic, that's all I hear, no game audio. If I choose "Device Audio" I get game but no mic. I'd like to point out again that I'm using the Elgato Game Capture HD. So, I'm capturing console gameplay.

Whenever I watch a setup video all they say is to set your desktop audio device to default and then your mic device to whatever mic you're using and then you're done -- but that does nothing for me.

Also, whenever I try a local recording -- I don't hear any audio when I play it back. Neither game, nor mic.

I am certainly inexperienced when it comes to streaming and stuff like this, so I understand this is likely user error. I just needed to post this because I've tried getting it to work for about 8hrs, but to no avail. I just couldn't find a helpful walkthrough or anything. Hope you can help.

Okay, I've been reading, but I'm still sort of confused. It sounds like you're trying to set up your mic in the source properties. You want to leave the audio there set to "(use device audio)". You're supposed to use the mic through the main mic channel via audio settings. I don't see any particular error in loading up the mic there so I'm just rather confused.
