Question / Help Can't get started!

Hi - I've just downloaded OBS, followed a basic tutorial and...nothing. I've set up a 'display capture' and all I've got is blackness in the preview screen; suffice to say, nothing but blackness is recorded when I record. I assume I'm missing something fundamental in the setup, but having gone through all the settings multiple times, I'm at a loss. Thanks in advance for any help. Oh, and I'm running Win10 on a very new and powerful gaming laptop (though I'm not planning on recording any games, just desktop stuff). Cheers, Max

Many thanks for the advice but I've tried altering things in the Nvidia controls and still nothing.

Game Mode doesn't appear to be turned on my system. Either way, I tried the second tip and created a new file in the registry but still I have a black screen.

So any other ideas much appreciated. All the best, Max

In case it helps someone, what was your issue-- was it setting OBS to use the integrated GPU? This is the common cause of inability to capture the display when running on laptops that have both discrete and integrated GPUs.

Yes - I had to go into the Nvidia settings, select Manage 3D settings to the right > then the Program tab to the right > then select OBS from the list > then change preferred graphic processor to 'Integrated graphics' - so hope this is of help to any other sufferers. Thanks again.
