Question / Help Canon M series for live streaming?

Hello.

I mainly use OBS to stream conferences in large rooms (like university lecture halls) and by now I used a Logitech C920 HD Pro. Unfortunately it has its problems with focussing in difficult light situations or when the distance between camera and speaker is too big.

Before I buy another camera I would like to know if it works with OBS Studio and maybe which additional hardware I need for it. I want to use the camera for other purposes as well and am thinking about a Canon M10 or Canon M3. This as well is my maximum price level.

I know that the M3 can live transmit the video via wifi as my univeristy mounts this model on mini UAVs which are developed for different uses cases, e. g. disaster area surveillance or wildfire monitoring, or with the words of Prof. Bernhard Rinner: “One can describe this as Google Earth in real time”. But for me the main questions is, does it work together with OBS Studio?

Before you throw cash at a pretty expensive cam:
select manual focus for the c920. Usually you can set it to maximum, unless you are closer than 50cm to the cam you dont need the autofocus.

If we are talking about the cameras: no idea how they work with the PC. If they are recognized as a webcam, it would work. Otherwise - no. You can avoid that with a capture card with HDMI input, this will capture anything that a modern camcorded can put out, up to 4k 60FPS (some capture cards can do that, they are just hella expensive).

And last one: dont use system cameras or DSLR for long time video capture. The sensor is not designed for that, this is why they have a limit of 15-20min on video recording. The sensor can overheat, that would kill the cam - and you dont want to buy another camera body. Use a camcorder for that, not only is that designed for recording for a long time, it will most likely produce a better picture with less adjustments.

Hello friend! dont throw away your camera there is a way. the comment of cryonic is a lazy reply. Use Vysor on your phone to tether camera connect app to your pc. then Voila! Obs can stream that :D
