Question / Help Cannot Record Display Capture

I am trying to record an instructional video for work. It involves multiple windows/programs, so I was trying to use the Display Capture source. I have a laptop hooked up to two external monitors, running three screens total, including the laptop screen. I got past the black screen issue and can see the correct display in the OBS window, but when I try to start recording, I get an error message that says,
"Failed to start recording. Starting the output failed. Please check the log for details. Note: If you are using NVENC or AMD encoders, make sure your video drivers are up to date."
I have went through the instructions for the NVIDIA changes to the settings, and even tinkered with it and tried various settings on it, to no avail. I also downloaded the VLC program that was listed in one of the help threads. Restarted everything, etc. Here is my log file:

I would greatly appreciate any assistance anyone could give me to get this to working. Please let me know if you need any further information about my system. Running Windows 10, Intel (R) Core (TM) i7-6500U CPU @ 2.50GHz 2.60GHz. 64 bit OS, x64-based processor. Touch Support with 10 Touch Points. (not sure what all that means, just copied it from the My PC properties.) It's a Dell Inspiron 17, 7000 Series.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I can't help with your issue, which is way more complicated than where I'm stuck... Could you possibly help me out on how you got past the black window with the screen capture. I'm getting that on my laptop, but I didn't quite understand the NVIDIA changes. Did you find a detailed thread for finding and adjusting those settings? Any input or help would be greatly appreciated.

Here's a link. It's pretty simple. https://obsproject.com/wiki/Laptop-Performance-Issues

First close OBS. Then I opened the NVIDIA control panel from the little icon on the task bar. Double clicked it. Then click Manage 3D Settings. Then there are two tabs. Select Program Settings tab. Click the Add button and find the obs64.exe file, or whatever OBS exe file you have and click Add Selected Program. Then under #2 in the dropdown menu select Integrated Graphics. And click apply. Close and open OBS. Then it should work with Display Capture source. I think it may affect other sources though.

I found a youtube video that had the answer in the comments. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z62LQEOXD1E
Video is worth watching itself too, though it didn't solve my problem. To be clear, I am strictly recording, not streaming. Settings, Output, Encoder drop-down menu switch to Software (x264). Seems to be working fine now. My output mode is still set on Simple.

According to your log, you have a Nvidia 940MX. This GPU doesn't support NVENC as encoder. Switch the encoder to QSV (Quicksync) or x264.
