Question / Help Cannot hear audio in OBS

I am using an Elgato capture card and I set it up in Obs. I am trying to stream ps3 game play when I set the obs into preview mode the video comes up perfectly the problem is I am not getting any sound from the game nor do I get any sound from my microphone. The two icons for microphone and game audio appear to show that there is indeed sound playing but I cannot hear it out of my headphones. I have the options in configuration to "output audio to stream only" checked. I clicked the other option to output audio to desktop and then I can hear game audio but I still get no mic audio. I also made a recording in obs, when I played it back I got no game audio but I did get mic audio.

I know the elgato is working fine because when I open up that software I get both game audio and mic audio.

Does this sound like a problem with obs? or is it something else?

I'm having the same issue with both the ElGato and Magewell capture cards but I am streaming PS4 and XB1 gameplay... I have contacted my mixers manufacturer as well as the local Guitar Center and both were unable to help me... I'm at my wits end with this and seriously thinking of either getting XSplit (the primary OBS competitor) or just go back to streaming from the console directly.
