Question / Help Cannot get Lifecam 3000 HD to work.

Hello everyone.

So, as the title says, I can't get my webcam to work on OBS with video capture device source. The software recognizes the webcam but it doesn't seem to turn on in any mode (preview, recording or streaming). I've tried countless things, and got some interesting info. My OS is windows 10.

- My lifecam 3000 HD actually only works on skype. I've tried to test it on facebook and gmail on firefox and with the the Microsoft Life Cam software, and it didn't make a damn thing. But I'm actually not very worried about it not working with microsoft life cam because they don't have a proper driver for windows 10.

- I've tried to connect it on every different USB port on my machine (directly, not with any hub), both 3.0 or 2.0, and it still only works with skype.

- I've actually managed to make it show up as a video capture device for like, 1 second, but then it turned off and yeah, that's all. It still worked on skype.

- Finally, and most importantly, I've tried to take a look at the log and it has a big "Warning -- DShowPlugin: control->Run failed, result = 80004002" looking at me, but I have no idea what to do with this.

Can anyone help me please? Sorry if it's something stupid I've overlooked, I did try to search for a solution for a long time.

The part of the log that addresses the problem (since I couldn't post the entire log because of character limit)

EDIT: Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, but I did try with both 32-bit and 64-bit versions but still got nothing.

res: 1280x720
frameIntervals: 333333-666666, or 30-15 fps. (10000000 / frameintervals = frames per second)

If this camera capture is a USB 2.0, there isn't enough bandwidth to run 1280x720 at 30 fps. Try reducing the resolution to maybe 640x480 30 fps, or 1280x720 10 fps. This is limited by USB 2.0 speed.

Oh, I didn't know that... But I just tried that and lower resolutions, with 15-30 fps and unfortunately it still doesn't work.

Bump, I did some more research looking into usb bandwith problems, and I think I'm on to something. I tested the webcam on my macbook, it works perfectly with everything, OBS included. So yeah, it doesn't seem like the problem is the webcam or OBS, so thanks for the hint. But I still can't get it to work on my pc, I already tried to restart with only mouse webcam plugged and it still only works in skype. Does anyone have any ideas? Do you think formatting into windows 7 might resolve this?

Thanks in advance.

Alright, it's working now. I did an update via Windows Update (seems I was missing a big one) and reaseated the power cord and every usb device on my pc. I'm not sure which one did the trick since I did both before testing, but now the webcam is working with every software I have (OBS included, ofc).

Thanks Sam.

Well i have the same problem now. My windows is up to date (win 10) i can see the cam in skype, tinychat etc. but its still complete black in OBS.

The cam is plugged in an 3.0 usp backport on my PC and my PC should have enough juice to get it running. (also there is this lovly blue light on the cam that shows me it is running and has juice)
