Question / Help Can you recommend a Capture card.

Hello everyone.

After my experience with my black magic intensity pro being the most temperamental thing I have ever bought. I wondered if anyone could recommend a capture card that I don't need to pray to for it to function.
I need a capture card that will not suffer from screen taring. It would need to be able to take 1080p 60fps but can output it at 30fps. I would also need to take the resolution of 1280 x 960 ( I play csgo at that res). I assume capture cards will now auto detect the signal coming in?

Thanks for any help.
Iain

Screen tearing happens if you don't use V-Sync and/or if you don't match the framerate sent to the framerate the capture card is able to receive. Can also happen if you duplicate your screen at a different framerate than the main screen. Some capture cards can auto-detect, some don't.

You might look at the Avermedia Live Gamer Lite or Live Gamer HD. Not sure if it does 1280x960 though. If you run CS:GO at really high framerates, you're going to get screen tearing.

If you want to step up your game, you might try something like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/121756494901

Unfortunately that's not a good Ebay price. I haven't seen one on Ebay for ~$300 like they used to be in over a year.

This one is also relatively popular: http://solarisjapan.com/products/sc-512n1-l-dvi-component-hd-and-dvi-capture-board

I haven't used it myself but people seem pretty happy with it usually.

Think of a capture card like a hardware-direct camera. If you play with vsync off, you're showing it torn frames. So it will capture torn frames, too. No capture card will magically fix the tear, because it's just recording what you give it.
Garbage in, garbage out.

I use a Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI that Boildown linked to above. I consider it to be THE best capture card currently on the market for livestreaming purposes. Tons of input types, solid performance, super low capture latency, 1080p@60fps recording, including at RGB24 color mode.
You can also get one from SabrePC without the passthrough daughterboard (literally the exact same card) for $200, when they're in stock. Usually come in and out every few weeks, and haven't heard a single complaint from any caster who's picked one up, once they got them set up right (usually either they put it into a PCIe 1.0 slot, or plugged into the output on the passthrough if they got a Micomsoft, if they had problems).

Can also confirm that it will cap 1280x960, 50fps or 59.94 (60). Though only in YUY2 mode.

I run a 60 hertz monitor and run at 200 - 300 FPS. (I can feel the difference and delay ) I don't get screen tearing on my monitor. Does that mean that I should not get tearing with a LGP. as it supports a 60fps input.
