So basically my question is the one in the threads name

I'm using a 2 PC setup and i'm cloning my gaming monitor which is 1920x1080 -120hz to my Avermedia Live gamer HD c985 which is 1920x1080 - 60hz

And when i duplicate my main monitor at 120hz it forces the capture card to 120hz too which results in tons of screen tearing

I asked a guy on Twitch who uses a 144hz screen and the same capturecard but he couldnt explain why it works for him and not for me.

Any ideas? since it should obviously be able to work since there are so many who does it.

it might depend on whether you are changing it in (assumption) nVidia Control Panel or Windows diplay properties. tbh, i'm not sure which one it would work the best with, but I could assume the nVidia Control Panel.

a better alternative is to set your cloned display as an extended desktop and use OBS's "Project" function by right clicking on the preview window and enabling projector mode (or something like that). This OBS will run on the gaming PC just make sure that once you're going to stream, just start OBS and make sure that "Dont Encode while previewing" is checked as well.

I've tried both and it still forces the Avermedia to become 120hz unfortunately. i dont get how other have gotten this to work somehow.. i'm currently using Nvidia control panel to duplicate it but i guess it's the same thing as windows duplicating.

The thing is if i do that i only have 2 screens that i can use so i cant have my chat open anywhere i guess.

You mean to have fullscreen viewing right on my 2nd screen and clone that one to the avermedia? That kinda ruins alot too since i play games like Arma 3 and when you open inventory in arma you use the windows mouse ingame, kinda hard to explain but if you move the mouse to the side of your screen you actually move out of the whole game

So basically i just need to get it working at 120hz and 60hz at the same time to my avermedia for me to benefit most out of my setup. I mean sure i can game at 60hz and stream at 60hz but i just got a new card which easily gets like 100+fps for most FPS games i play so id really enjoy seeing that FPS when playing !

by second monitor, I was referring to the avermedia cap card output.so let me make corrections above and hope it makes more sense.

a better alternative is to set your cloned display (avermedia) as an extended desktop and use OBS's "Project" function by right clicking on the preview window and enabling projector mode (or something like that). This OBS will run on the gaming PC just make sure that once you're going to stream, just start OBS and make sure that "Dont Encode while previewing" is checked as well.

So in the end, you'll have 3 displays showing. lets just say Far Left screen, Avermidia Cap Card, followed by your Center Screen, primary monitor for gaming, then to your right monitor being your "second" monitor

Okay for new people reading this thread, What dping wrote is a legit way to stream if you're having the same problem as i had. I'm using it right now and i can utilize my main 120hz and still get 60hz streaming without screentearing

Thank you very much dping for the help
