I have had this computer for ages and it is working well. can this program work on windows 7?
Should I upgrade?

You may be able install and open it, but if you have any issues, the first thing we're going to advise is upgrade to Windows 10 as Windows 7 is not supported by it's developer or OBS.
You can still upgrade to Windows 10 for free
