Can OSB be run from an external drive?

This company wants me to screen record how to use a software program that runs an attached piece of hardware and they recommend OSB. It has Windows 10 but no software to record the screen or a window*.

For security reasons, because it doesn't need to be, and because nothing should interfere with the software while it is running the attached machine, the computer is not connected to the internet. I want to know if OSB can be run from an external drive.

*No, it does not. Whatever you suggest I look for, it isn't there. This computer has a highly specialized setup by the installing technicians of the attached machine and most of the programs that normally come with Windows were uninstalled. It doesn't even have Paint or Notepad.

There is an option called portable mode you could look into. But whether that will work on a highly customized OS install? no idea. sorry
My suggestion would be to look up on this site how to setup/configure an OBS Portable Mode install, and then test

Another option would be, presuming DRM type video security not in place, to use the video out (HDMI, DVI, VGA?) from the Win10 specialized system, into an appropriate capture card connected to a 'regular' PC with OBS installed (normal/default or Portable mode) and record that way
