It is OBS is for compositing an audio-video stream live It's not for streaming prerecorded audio or video
Ok I am new to all this, when you say server i'm presuming i'd need access to something more than just domain hosting?Simplest option would likely be to setup Owncast on your server to stream from OBS to or Icecast https://icecast.org
That's not totally true. I'm about finished with a 24/7 broadcast app using OBS that uses pre-recorded material similar to a public access station. And yes, it is different from the playout software that you can buy. It uses all the compositing features of obs to an advantage. It is OBS is for compositing an audio-video stream live It's not for streaming prerecorded audio or video
Can you please tell me more about the 24/7 broadcast you did and how I could set that up on my siteI think you might want to look into radio king. and stream that to where you want. This, i guess , runs on your home computer? Anyway, give it a look. It's not that expensive.

I'm in the test phase now and it's not available yet.Can you please tell me more about the 24/7 broadcast you did and how I could set that up on my site
I'm also looking at radio king as an option
Yes you are right. obs has to transit to something. It is true Pre-recorded elements can be composited into the broadcast stream from OBS but OBS can not distribute that out to viewers The requires an RTMP server or service such as the ones I mentioned
By the way, this is a video channel, not a radio station app.I'm in the test phase now and it's not available yet.
Here is a couple of test streams. They start and stop at points as I start/stop streaming on purpose. I'm doing sort of a retro tv channel. The first one is where I'm streaming a bunch of hopalong cassidy tv shows from the 50's. www.youtube.com/watch?v=D6YQI7B2p-g
here is another test stream. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8PkstqI3og
Here is a music video generated by my program: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yclNCXG3Hzo
Basically the program is a ms application that talks to obs over a web socket. It's a windows program.
I'm active on obs forum
Automate 24/7 Stream for a scheduled Playlist

I currently transmit to youtube. If you have a website, then maybe transit to youtube or twitch and embed it.
Anyway, come over to the automated 24/7 forum if interested. There is really too much to repeat here.
