Question / Help Can I recover not finished recorded file?

Hi guys. I use OBS to record video files, but my computer crashed. Now I have a not finished record, which is 4gb, so I think maybe I could recover it somehow. I really need this record, can anyone help me out how to make the file work?

Hello. What file output type did you use? If it's an .mp4 it can be somewhat hard to recover it, as its container structure wasn't meant to just end. It might be possible, but if you want to be on the safe side for the next time, you should probably switch to .flv and convert it to an .mp4 after finishing recording as described here: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=6406

.flv files will work even when OBS crashes, as their container structure allows the file to just end at any time. Also notable is that you can convert .flv files into .mp4 files without the need to re encode frame by frame.

I use MP4 files :(

MP4 files aren't recoverable if something happens -- you need to use FLV instead for that, as that file format supports sudden breaks. MP4 however does not.
