Question / Help Can I just not do this?

Hello, I've been trying to get OBS to recording a game for the past 2 days and keep getting hit with 'not responding' and 'encoder overloaded' as soon as the game boots.
I'm on windows 10 on an HP Pavilion.
I also am already on the lowest resolutions that are still 16:9 and the fastest encoder to try and get this to work, resulting in a recording that not only looks terrible, but also still doesn't work.
I'm starting to think that maybe my laptop just can't do this?

The log says I'm dropping some 30-40% of my frames due to lag

Any advice is greatly appreciated

-when opening OBS right click the icon and run as administrator
- install the CoreAudio ACC driver, pinned link shows how
- use NVENC encoder. you have a GTX 1050. not x264
- make base and output canvas both resolution: 1280x720

Ok I've worked through that. Had to switch to running the program with NVIDIA instead of integrated graphics to avoid 'NVENC codec' error. So now I can't see my desktop in OBS. and my game isn't lagging as much (down to about 20-22%) but its still very jumpy?

Thanks for your first advice @BigYuckFou

Hello,

Thank you for pointing that out, taken those off and will structure my scenes around that. Managed to get the lag down to (11%) by bring my scale resolution of Game Capture down, means the game isn't full screen but if that's what I need to do to stream/record so be it. I can put other things in the gaps. Putting that resolution back up took lag back to 60% somehow.
Is this a common thing people do??

Try setting your base and output resolution both to 1920x1080. Then in the Output tab, on the Recording tab, check the box for Rescale Output and set that 1280x720. Use MKV for recording instead of MP4. Also try limiting Spyro to 60 FPS.

Gave this a try. Still got about 55% loss with those settings. Was better if I Force Scale the 'Game Capture' element as well, still not perfect but noticeably less jumpy.
I am sorry about all this, appreciate all the help.

Tried this and after the update I can't even get steam to work. 'having trouble connecting to servers'
Attempted a coupe of fixes to no avail. trying to restore to before the update

Manage to get steam working again after two failed system restores and a clean installation. Will try the settings again tomorrow once I've redownloaded the game.
