Can every window showing a video be recorded?

Newbie question?
Sound recording no problem.
No problem to record videos from browsers or showing static windows of explorer etc. But I have been unsuccessful to record videos in other windows, e.g. from Windows Video player or VLC player or in other software. Should Obsstudio be able to record every window with a video running or are there limitations? When going through the windows choices I an not offered these other video windows playing.

If you try to capture a DRM-protected movie from some movie player, OBS might not be able to pick it up. If you try this, OBS is not the tool for you: it's not a tool for circumventing DRM.

To incorporate some pre-made video snippet into your own video, for example an intro or outro, consider using the "media source" source within OBS to play the video instead of capturing it from a media player.
