Question / Help Can a chat command start the replay buffer?

Ive figured I could use autohotkey, I could have the chat type a command such as !clutch, ankhbot could create a text file, and autohotkey could use IfFileExists to notice the file, push down a hotkey for x amount of time, then delete the file, but I'm pretty sure this only works if obs is the selected program on the screen, which wouldnt work while playing pc games.
Anyone have any ideas?
