Question / Help C985 Hardware encoding

Hey folks!

I'm trying to decide if I should purchase a C985 or C127. Looks to me like the major differentator is the hardware encoding. Is OBS able to take advantage of this at all?

Thanks!

The only reason I see to get a capture card is if you use a 2nd pc to do the streaming. I bought the c985 to use and ended up returning it. In my opinion, it seems like a gimick card because of the "stream from the same computer with no lag" advertise. It would be a nice card to use for a dual pc setup. The main issue is the encoding on the card has bad reviews, you still rely on your CPU to do the encoding. All you need to do is get a separate microphone for the 2nd computer. If you only do 720p30, you could go with a cheaper card too. Fortunately, the c985 works well with OBS.

Thanks for the replies!

I was initially looking to the C985 to capture console input. The added benefit I was hoping to achieve was offloading compression.

I'm not too sure about other capture cards but the c985 doesn't seem bad for consoles. I thought your concern was the encoding offload while pc gaming. That is a different story.
