Buzzy audio when recording at default levels?

I'm trying to record from an app on an emulator and for some reason it sounds fine as I'm recording but when I play back the recording afterward it's extra loud and buzzy. In this video (https://streamable.com/6elq37) you can see that the levels are normal when recording from the app but then when I play the recording it turns red because the audio is distorted. I know I could probably fix this by just turning down the desktop audio when recording, but why is this happening? Are there other solutions?

Do you have a gain filter? If you gain it up to get the right level the first time, that's fine, but if you play that recording through the same source again with the same gain still active, it'll be too much.

I'm not using any filters. Everything is at default settings. I'm just so confused why the audio playback doesn't sound the same as it does when I'm listening to it while recording (even with different media players). In this particular situation I'm able to go back and try again but in many cases I'm recording something live and this could ruin my live recordings. I'd rather not have to turn down the desktop audio since it's hard to know how much to lower it and I'd like the recordings to be at the original source's volume.

I think the reason no one else has answered is because no one else knows either. You're not gaining it up in OBS, but I still wonder if something else is. Look all over your system, including the things that Windoze tries to hide from the id10ts that it thinks are using it.
