Hey everyone,

I'm new to this forum and if it's not too much trouble, was hoping you could help with my budget Twitch PC build.

Click here to view the Budget Twitch PC Build

Current price is a bit expensive, I welcome any suggestions on how to effectively reduce the price.

Function of PC:
  • I will be gaming on my PS4 and will be using a game capture card; so that I can stream off the PC
  • The PC is purely there for streaming, overlays and interactions with the viewers will not be gaming at same time on PC
  • When not broadcasting, I will be doing some browsing, watching Youtube and normal stuff; no video encoding or production of any kind
The PC will not be used for gaming and if it is, it will only be for something like Hearthstone whilst streaming; this is not essential.

Setup:
  • PS4 > Connected to PC > Connected to my Full HD Samsung Smart TV (don't have a stand alone monitor)
  • PC and PS4 will be connected via ethernet cables from the electrical network aka home plugs (not using wireless)
  • I've got Fibre Broadband arriving in a week (so my upload speed will drastically improve from my current 1MB! Bad I know
I've got a PS4 camera, can this be plugged into the PC and also used as a camera or do I need to buy a separate one?

With the above setup can I connect to my HD TV or do I need another GPU/HDMI slot of some sort?

My current laptop sucks! It's so slow and painful at times (Windows 7).
I've been putting off getting a new PC, but since I've started streaming (2 weeks in) I figured, now's a good time to upgrade > then buy a PS4 VR set in 2017.

Appreciate you taking the time out to read this and thank you for the help.

p.s. Elgato game capture card and OS is also included in the price along with the home plugs.

Well, there's no need for the extra NIC, the motherboard already has gigabit on-board.
I'd actually recommend an ASUS motherboard, mostly as I've had issues with MSI in the past and their... questionable build decisions. They're more expensive, but I see it as worthwhile for something you'll be using for a few years.

That should be able to handle 720p@30fps quite nicely while also gaming on the machine (even if you won't normally), possibly up to 720p@60 if it's encoding-only and if you have the bitrate.

No idea if the PS4 cam can be used with a PC. Google should help. The Logitech c920 is the gold standard for casting webcams though, if you're looking for a new one.

I'd be a bit leery about only putting in a 430W PSU, but with a low-end GPU and only one HDD, it shouldn't be too much of an issue.

I'd consider going for an i7 if at all possible. This will allow you to run a lower x264 preset, which means more efficient encoding at the cost of higher CPU load, but makes your stream look noticeably better at comparable bitrates. VERY important, if you're a non-Partner casting to Twitch, and need to live within the real-world 2000kbps max bitrate framework. The encoding-only system may be able to work out, but it won't have quite the long legs that an i7 would.

I'd advise caution about the Elgato, depending on which one you're going to be getting. Their externals are NOT recommended, as they all have a ~2 second delay, and pre-compress the video delivering lower final image quality (as well as raising CPU load).
You can generally get a cheap AverMedia internal card like the C985, which is a workable starter-grade card, even if they marketing-scum pretty badly.
If you can afford it, an Elgato HD60Pro (internal) works OK, or the one I use (SC512) is a great option that delivers true RGB color instead of downsampled YV12 like the HD60P. Can get one from SabrePC as the Yuan SC512 for about the same price, with more features.

Wow FerretBomb, thanks for your in-depth message and sharing your wisdom.

I've just made another build based on your input, pretty much changed everything, could you please advise if this will suffice? (I've added the attachment to this reply)

I plan to connect my PS4 to the PC and then connect my PC to the HD TV; with this setup, can I do that?
i.e. PS4 to Elgato - Graphics Card to HD TV?

I've included the Elgato HD60 Pro Internal card, with this can I add overlays and do all the fancy stuff that broadcasters do with Twitch/OBS?

The video card has been updated to a GDDR5 vs the older version of DDR3 memory. Also faster core clock at 902MHz vs the older version of 700MHz > I'm assuming this upgrade was all worth it.

FYI:
The Yuan SC512 doesn't appear to be available in the UK and for cost efficiency I've just gone with the Elgato; despite your note about the color.

Many thanks in advance
